Review of your career – When should you consider a new firm

We know that, when we make our first direct approaches, successful individuals are not ardently seeking new positions. For this reason, we expect you to tell us how well things are going.

We do not, at this point, set out to tell you how wrong you are. We are frequently told how different our approach is, to that of other, more aggressive search firms.

The fact is, that you will be the exception to the rule if you happen to remain with one firm from admission to retirement!

Yes, partnership may well be on offer to you, but just because this is where you work now, does not necessarily make it the best partnership opportunity for you personally.

Similarly, as a partner, however senior, your personal goals, opinion and aspirations may not always continue to be satisfied by the firm you are currently with.

In-house opportunities are another issue. The timing of an in-house move is crucial. We will give honest advice to any one considering such a position.

As we stand now, opportunities for successful and ambitious solicitors will offer many of you a choice of options, which should continually be reviewed. The most successful “names” are not necessarily those with the most stable/solid career.
